Under the authority of the Prime Minister, the Secretary general for the sea is in charge, at the central level, of the development of the national maritime policy, from its conception (in national and international frame) to its local development (where it assumes the coordination of the actions of the maritime prefects). In the particular matter of law enforcement at sea, the General Secretary also chairs the executive board of the French coast-guard function.
The French Maritime Cluster (CMF) is an organisation formed to stimulate and promote the French maritime economic sector. Its current membership of more than 300 organisations from the sector includes large groups and companies, SME, VSE, professional federations and associations, and the French Navy. Established in 2005 to provide a voice for those professionally engaged in maritime related activities, it is the focal point and representative of the French maritime industries, and continually seeks to foster their internal synergies.
